I’m on the edge
Just beyond my toes
3 seconds below
is water
peaceful
waiting
and so clear that the sky has come down to paint it with its colors, so it must be heaven down there, right?
Jump
I know there are rocks
I can see the rocks
lurking beneath the surface
but I can never be sure
I’ll hit them
Jump
I try
I
start to calculate
How deep can I dive and stay safe
I determinate
how many limbs I’d be willing to break just for the taste of freefall butterflies and this ice cold lake on
my
body
Jump
My toes are already over
There is literally nothing standing between them and the water and I am
jealous
They get to feel the breath of the water
breezing up against the cliffs to touch the one part of me it can reach
Jump
I wish
it would just whirl up a storm, wrap itself around and pull me close
so I would not have no choice, but to
Jump
Remember that we lived in water
for nine whole months
So ever since I was born, my body has longed for more water
Jump
How it washes away all the pain
just by hugging you
touching your skin
Jump
How it welcomes you in
pushes you up higher
and holds you
Jump
Because although it will open up to accept every inch of you it is
strong
Makes you float
Jump
And this floating is the closest I’ll ever get to flying
Jump
So why am I so afraid of dying when clearly
this
is the only way to be alive
and I need to be inside it
I
Jump
Head first
